Dr. Xiaoyan Xu

General Manager China

Dr. Xiaoyan Xu is the General Manager of Novum Structures China. He is responsible for procurement and quality control of products for the Novum group as well as sales and project management and field supervision of projects in China.

Xiaoyan joined the company in 2000 as MERO Asia’s Sales Manager and joined Novum Structures in January 2005. Prior to that, he was the Business Development and Senior Operations Manager for Lisus Engineering Pte Ltd., a company specializing in architectural metal work. He also worked as a project manager for general contractor Techworld Construction & Engineering Pte Ltd. Xiaoyan has held a number of senior level structural engineer positions with P & T Consultants, NAXCO Industries and the Central Research Institute of Building and Construction of Ministry of Metallurgical Industries.

Xiaoyan has extensive experience as a structural engineer, holding a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Baotou Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, China, as well as masters and doctoral degrees in structural engineering from Tongji University Shanghai, China.

Masarat Bashir

General Manager India

Masarat Bashir is the Operations Director for Novum Structures India. In addition to project oversite, he is responsible for the coordination between international entities including intercompany activities and sales, management of statutory compilations for government and tax authority, vendor negotiations, exported goods, administration, purchase orders, information technology and human resources.

Prior to joining Novum, Masarat worked as an independent director for a media house for 11 years. In 2006, he was the Regional Manager for Mark Constructions, a leading construction company in Bangalore, specializing in curtain walls and facades. Masarat joined Novum in 2009 and was appointed Director in 2014.

Masarat graduated with a management degree from the University of Kashmir and earned his certification in Human Resource Management from HR House in Bangladore, India, in 2008.

Firas Issa

General Manager Middle East

Firas Issa is the General Manager of Novum Structures Middle East. He is responsible for overseeing business development initiatives as well as the management of operations in Novum’s regional office in UAE which covers the Middle East.

Prior to joining Novum, Firas was General Manager of Alumana Industries, one of the largest companies in Qatar, overseeing the operations of three separate factories involved in the building of aluminum curtain walls and architectural glass and steel structures. He was instrumental in achieving 9001, ISO 9014, IGCC and SGCC certifications for the glass factory and handled the selection of its CNC production lines. Before that, Firas was the Commercial Director of a leading UAE-KSA facade company managing its commercial operations.

Firas is working toward obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom and has earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Jordan. His demonstrated ability to provide energy and organizational capacity to our international team in the Middle East is proving instrumental to Novum’s success.

Andrew Spottiswoode

Engineering Manager South Africa

Andrew Spottiswoode is the Engineering Manager and Representative Director of Novum Structures South Africa. He is responsible for the preconstruction engineering of projects in the Middle East and Africa, as well as the management of operations in our South Africa division which includes procurement, project management and construction.

Andrew worked for Murray and Roberts Construction in South Africa prior to joining Novum in the USA. As Preconstruction Engineer, he specialized in glazed steel structures and was involved in training engineers. Andrew returned to Johannesburg to open and operate a Novum office there. Several notable projects have been built including the Mall of Africa, the largest skylight on the continent featuring ETFE pillows and freeform structure.

Andrew completed a Bachelor in Civil Engineering degree from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, and completed a Master of Structural Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Safak Oktenay

General Manager Turkey

Safak Oktenay is the General Manager of Novum Structures Turkey. He is responsible for overseeing the operations of our CE certified steel fabrication plant, management of construction works for local projects as well as the expansion of sales activities in the region.

Prior to joining Novum, Safak served as Vice President of AKANA Engineering, managing the technical responsibilities, production and install of several major projects in the region and Middle East. Prior, he owned and operated an aluminum system glazing company in Turkey which contracted for the engineering, supply and installation of systems in Turkey and Kazakhstan.

Safak earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University in 1987. His proven ability to rapidly analyze Novum’s key business requirements, identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions for our clients is an asset to our international team.

Gunda Noatzsch

General Manager Novum Membranes

Gunda Noatzsch is the General Manager and Director of Novum Membranes GmbH. She is responsible for the management of the company and its highly skilled employees at our specialized production facility in Edersleben, Germany. Gunda oversees an engineering team, corporate reinvestment and optimized production enabling Novum Membranes to be a market leader. The facility also develops specialized production equipment and continues to investigate and apply new technologies to expand product applications.

Prior to Novum’s acquisition in late 2007, Gunda was the Managing Director of KfM GmbH. KfM, which is now Novum Membranes, fabricated architectural membranes for many notable projects, including the Allianz Arena (Munich, Germany) which consists of 62,000 m2 of ETFE air filled pillows.

Gunda holds a degree as a Qualified Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) from the Dresden University of Technology in Germany. She is a leading authority on the processing of ETFE materials. Novum Membranes works closely with leading research institutes for accreditations.

Chad Page

Project Director UK

Chad Page is the Project Director for Novum Structures UK. He is responsible for the projects, financial and engineering departments; from contract award, through design, manufacture and installation. Furthermore, Chad ensures that all projects are successfully completed in time with quality and is the main point of contact for Novum’s clients. He has ensured performance on UK projects whilst dealing with its growth on multiple fronts.

Chad has over 32 years of experience in the construction industry and has worked on numerous prestigious projects. Prior to joining Novum, Chad was Senior Surveyor at Bell Project Ltd., where he was responsible for all surveying duties on new-build and refurbishment projects.

Chad holds a BTEC National Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering and a BTEC Higher National Diploma in Building Studies. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, November 1998.

Richard Mattocks

Managing Director UK

Richard Mattocks is the Managing Director for Novum Structures UK. He is responsible for the management and implementation of Novum’s strategic plans for the United Kingdom, Ireland and Scandinavia. Richard is also responsible for having successfully implemented a European team dedicated to facilities management as well as for growing a substantial presence in the UK glazing sector to go with an established membrane capability.

Prior to joining Novum in 2008, Richard was instrumental in establishing and operating a well-known ETFE supply and build company in the UK. He also owned and operated a successful construction company which installed ETFE pillows and fabric structures throughout Europe, China and Saudi Arabia. These companies were acquired and then combined to become Novum UK.

Richard has a technical education in Construction Industry Management Methods and his early career was spent on offshore platforms which propelled him into specializing in the safe installation of complex structures.

Tamas Katona

Director of Project Management & Field Services

Tamas Katona is the Director of Project Management and Field Services for Novum Structures LLC. He is responsible for the oversight of project management and field operations throughout North America with an emphasis on client satisfaction via quality and on-time performance.

Tamas’ experience with specialty glazed structures spans over 15 years of working with some of the industry’s larger companies. Prior to joining Novum, Tamas was Vice President of Operations at one of North America’s leading building envelope contractors with employees situated in 28 offices throughout the US and Canada. During this time, Tamas was responsible for the development and successful growth of a unitized curtain wall business. His role included oversight and leadership of departments from business development, engineering and manufacturing; through project management and field operations. Tamas also brings several years of valuable experience on the general contracting side which he gained through time with Clark Construction Group and Hensel Phelps.

Bryan McWherter

Director of Fabrication and Product Supply

Bryan McWherter is the Director of Fabrication and Product Supply for Novum Structures LLC. He is responsible for scheduling, planning and managing the weekly output of his team as well as implementing the strategic plans for Novum’s North American architectural steel fabrication and warehouse operations. In addition to production, he oversees purchasing, quality assurance and the logistics of product supply including glass and glazing accessories for all North American projects as well as the export of fabricated steelwork to Novum entities.

Prior to joining Novum, Bryan owned and operated an established Chicago-based AISC certified structural steel fabrication company for over 15 years. He brings 26 years of professional experience in the structural steel and field installation industry.

Bryan earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Art/Computer Graphics at Millikin University in Decatur, IL.

Terry Peterson

Vice President of Sales

Terry C. Peterson is the Vice President of Sales for Novum Structures LLC. He is responsible for bringing integrated glazed + membrane structure solutions to architects, general contractors and building owners across North America.

Prior to joining Novum, Terry served as Regional Manager for Weyerhauser selling wood roof systems to general contractors and owners. Before that, he served as Sales Engineer for Inryco Steel Products where he promoted and sold metal panels and curtain walls to architects and general contractors.

Terry has successfully managed a professional sales & estimating team at Novum for over 25 years. His team’s interpersonal consultation style places heavy emphasis on client satisfaction, resulting in consistent growth for the organization and significant repeat business. Terry’s successful implementation of a “designer assist” program has resulted in industry leading collaboration to meet client design and financial goals.

Terry earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis from the University of Wisconsin Madison and a Master in Marketing from the University of San Francisco.

Travis Loften

Vice President of Global Finance and US Operations

Travis Loften is the Vice President of Global Finance and North American Operations for Novum Structures LLC. In relation to global activities, he is responsible for the financial and regulatory oversite of Novum’s domestic and international entities. These responsibilities include: budgeting, banking, foreign exchange operations, insurance, taxes, capital expenditures and financial statements.

For North America, Travis provides oversight and direction for several service departments: Contract Administration, Project Management & Field Services, Fabrication & Product Supply, Information Technology and Human Resources.

Prior to joining Novum, Travis served as the Chief Financial Officer at a Wisconsin based design-build firm and was also a Senior Tax Associate at Grant Thornton LLP. Travis is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Simon Wheatley

Director and General Manager Europe

Simon Wheatley is the Director and General Manager for Novum Structures’ European division. He is responsible for overseeing business development and operations for Novum’s entities in the UK, Turkey and Germany.

Prior to joining Novum in 2008, Simon was the Managing Director at Space Decks Systems Limited in the UK. The company specialized in spaceframe structures and glazing. During this time he successfully developed overseas markets, particularly the Caribbean Islands, Singapore and a Middle East export business.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Honor from the University at South Bank, London.

Simon has been instrumental in the successful development of Novum’s European division which, in addition to sales of all Novum offerings, includes six engineering teams, two fabrication facilities for membrane and steel, procurement, quality assurance and international project and field management.

Soeren Stephan

Director of Engineering

Soeren Stephan is the Director of Engineering for Novum Structures LLC. He is responsible for managing the in-house global engineering and design teams which are in multiple locations. Soeren is also responsible for the development of Novum’s proprietary systems and components as well as corresponding design software.

Prior to joining Novum, Soeren served as Chief Design Engineer for NOELL GmbH in Wuerzburg, Germany. In 1997, Soeren joined MERO GmbH, Germany, as a technical director in the company’s construction system division. After a brief stint with the Waagner Biro AG steel & glass division in Vienna, Austria, Soeren joined the Novum team in May 2005.

Soeren holds a degree as a graduated engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) and a Master of Science from the Technical University St. Petersburg. Soeren has written extensively about the engineering behind complex steel and glass structures and has been published in a number of technical journals, most notably “Der Stahlbau.”

Ian Collins

CEO and President

Dr. Ian Collins is the CEO and President of Novum Structures LLC. Ian leads the strategic direction and oversight of the diverse Novum group and is engaged in establishing sustainable market growth globally. He is responsible for executive management of the company’s total performance.

Ian joined the company in 1988 when he was hired by German-based MERO GmbH to serve as President of its US Company. In June 2004, Ian, along with key MERO Structures management and a Milwaukee-based investment group, purchased the US business. International expansion began in 2005 as did expansion into the architectural membranes business to complement the existing structure and glazing expertise. The entity was rebranded in 2006 as Novum Structures LLC and is a leader in the systems approach to architectural steel + cladding.

Ian obtained his doctorate in structural engineering from the University of Surrey, Space Structures Research Centre in England in 1981. His early career included developing structural system products, together with integrated 3-D analysis/design software and project engineering.
