  • Novum was involved early in the design process for the development of a new façade at the King of Prussia Mall. Novum assisted the architectural team with the development of the large triangular glass panels for the wall. Novum won the bid to provide the engineering, fabrication, and installation of the triangular glass façade. From the inside, large unobstructed views are achieved by eliminating some of the vertical steel behind the vertical glass joints creating impressive transparency. The canopy was awarded as a Designer Assist where Novum assisted the client team with development from concept to final construction drawings for the canopy. The canopy connects the main mall building to the parking garage providing coverage to the patrons. Special care in detailing creates and enhances the architectural effect.

    The facade structure consists of galvanized rectangular tubes and steel nodes that are shop painted. The tubes support the glass panels. The custom machined steel nodes allow for unique angles to be achieved in the wall geometry. The hidden bolted connections eliminate the need for costly site welding and painting. The façade glazing is insulated glass with a low-e and a laminated layer on the outside of the makeup. The glass panels are typically 8’ on edge. The glass is supported with the Novum Edge Clamped Glazing System. The ECG consists of plates on the inside and outside of the glass that are formed to achieve the unique angles which support the glass panels to the steel backup structure.


    The structure for the canopy consists of galvanized and painted HSS tubes. All the steel members are connected with bolted connections which eliminated the need for welding. This design attribute speeds up installation and allows for a better finish for the final product. The canopy consists of laminated glazing with a frit to reduce glass cleaning cycles. The glass is supported with the Novum Point Supported Glazing System which achieves a “floating” look for the canopy.
