Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Kansas City, Missouri, USA

About

This Work

The Kauffman Center features two large performance halls with massive steel substructures. A giant foyer is created by an elaborate glazed tension structure which anchors to the halls and then forms a tent tensioned over wall columns. The foyer structure features multiple Novum Systems – architectural steel, tension rods and cables. Similarly, the glazing uses edge, point and corner supported glass showing the power of system integration. The incredible lightweight structure is one of the most complex in the country.
